ISSUES RELATING TO BROWNFIELD SITES
Disused underground services in Brown field sites are normally abandoned and left, these pose the following risks:
Problem 1 – Disused pressure pipelines can create a pathway of contamination at any time even if it is temporary or permanent on site activities.
Solution – The simplest way to remove this risk is to recover the pipeline. Historically some of these pipelines have been filled with foam concrete to remove this risk. However what remains is an obstacle to future development if not removed. We can remove these pipelines.
Problem 2 – Power cables: When discovered during re-development these can pose a high risk both financially and with regards to safety. To avoid this all disused cables should be recovered and only live ones to remain.
Solution 2 – GLS has successfully removed hundreds of miles of pipeline and power cables throughout the UK. So returning the land to a safe and suitable environment ready for development.
