Underground disused asset recovery programme: June- December 2023
Gilmerton Land Services LTD has recently completed a successful recovery programme of dissused underground power cabling, dating from the 1940s-1980s at a former UK RAF wartime airfield.
This now enables the client to develop the site safely, without any of the unnecessary hold up costs involved in identifying rogue cables.
The programme resulted in the recovery of 43km of cable route, consisting of a total of 204 tonnes of various cables, along with all the added benefits involved with the recycling of recovered materials.
Broken down these weights consist of:
– Lead content: 85 tonnes
– Copper content: 21 tonnes
– Steel Armour: 43 tonnes
– PVC coating: 44 tonnes
– Waste tar/oil impregnated paper: 11 tonnes
Ultimately, leaving the client extremely satisfied.
